Firstly, I am not a doctor. I am a professional woman whose just turned 50. I've always been very ambitious and driven and constantly on the go. An overachiever and perfectionist is the best way to describe me! I've been like that my entire life and that is what drove me to burnout. I was so busy "achieving" my whole life, I never looked after me... and that can only continue for so long before it all comes crashing down! The warning signs were all there, I just ignored them and pushed through... until I no longer could.
At 16 I started suffering with migraines and back pain. By the time I was 21, in addition to these, fatigue and brain fog started plaguing me ... but I was told "I was in perfect health"! Over the years, these symptoms continued and increased in intensity, with some additional ones joining the party! Every few years, I'd see the doctor, have bloodwork taken and be told yet again.... "I'm in perfect health"... so why was feeling like crap every day?
Approximately 9 years ago, I was totally burnt out and my body completely crashed. I was bedridden, suffering from relentless muscle spasms, migraines, digestive issues, erratic periods, and depression. Even though my bloodwork showed "I was in perfect health", my doctor diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia and advised me to accept a life of pain and fatigue, and do my best to manage it with medication, as there was no cure. Mind you, there is no definitive test for Fibro either so did I actually have it or is it something he diagnosed me with as had no other answers? Either way, being in my early 40s, single, and unemployed due to my health, I felt both depressed and terrified that this would be my future.
I felt alone, overwhelmed, defeated, and completely hopeless.
After the initial shock and fear wore off, I refused to accept this diagnosis. I had spent my life up until this point as an ambitious, driven and successful woman, and a life in bed and pain was not an option for me. I dedicated years to researching and exploring various treatments to improve my health. I was determined to find a solution. As always, an overachiever!
I've read countless books authored by doctors, spent innumerable hours researching online, and invested tens of thousands of dollars in doctors, blood tests, supplements, physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture, myofascial release, kinesiology, nutrition, and more. Some worked a little, some did not. With the help of a new doctor, I realised that a holistic approach addressing a combination of lifestyle areas was essential, since multiple aspects of my lifestyle were affecting my body. These areas all impact each other, they are interconnected.
This is where the 8 Pillars of Holistic Health were born.
Since committing to the 8 Pillars of Holistic Health, I have transformed my life. From a life in bed completely burnt out, I returned to full-time work in my dream job, traveled, moved to a new city, renovated a house, met someone special, fell in love, got engaged, and reclaimed my life—all naturally and within my control. Nine years ago, this seemed unimaginable. According to my doctor then, it was impossible as all he wanted to do was prescribe me more pain medication. There was no discussion around lifestyle factors impacting my health.
Please don't resign yourself to a life of low energy & vitality, and potentially drive yourself to burnout like I did. You deserve to feel your best and show up as the best version of yourself to keep chasing those dreams and flaming that ambition. You deserve that, your family deserves that, your work and dreams deserve that.
You can revitalise your life with abundant energy and vitality... I would love to share what has worked for me and help you take control of your life and establish healthy holistic habits and routines to set you up for success. I hope I catch you before you burn out and help you perform at your best, but even if you have already crashed, there is life after burnout!
Save time, save pain, and save money by following the method that has transformed my life.
